Expenses in producing & raising a litter properly

This page is more related to the expenses involved in breeding, whelping and raising a litter.  Right now we are following the expenses of our Winnie x Rhythm litter which I will post here as they accumulate.  Most companion homes that inquire are surprised to hear how much a Whippet puppy costs from a reputable breeder, but most do not think about how much it cost the breeder to produce and raise a litter.  Here is a breakdown of the costs of one of our litters - the 2010 Winnie x Rhythm litter.  I will not include a stud fee price - some charge a stud fee and others prefer a puppy back, but I don't think that is my area to discuss, better left for the stud dog owner.   The Panacur costs are because we are doing a Panacur protocol on Winnie that will last for almost half her pregnancy until after she has the puppies - so there are several weeks of her receiving Panacur.  The puppies will also receive Panacur when they are older.

Also this does not include any entries over the past several years to race and lure course her so that she could become a Multiple NOTRA meet winner, a Best In Field Winner and earn her AKC Field Championship (FC), Senior Courser (SC), ASFA Field Championship (FCh), Companion Racer Excellent x 3 (CRX-3) and her Oval Race Championship (ORC).

.....

Winnie's puppies were born on August 25, 2010.  On August 27th we removed the puppies dewclaws at home, which saves us a trip to the vets and stress on mom and pups, not to mention we also do not have to pay to have them removed by someone else.  Keep coming back to see the expense progress of this litter.
