Sweet Pea is our beloved foundation bitch and the matriarch of the house.  She has blessed us with 3 incredible litters, she was a great mother in and out of the whelping box and still tends to her children, grandchildren and now her great-grandchildren.  Her show career was exciting, piloted by our good friend, Barbara Wayne, she was Winners Bitch at the Canfield, Ohio shows - Midwest Specialty weekend - for a 5 point major over more than 80 bitches, supported entry!  She then came home and received another supported entry major and then finished her Championship with one single point, 5 weeks in whelp with her first litter - of 10!   Sweet Pea wasn't the fastest runner, but she loved every minute of coursing and racing.  Her running career ended when she was injured at the 2003 Chicago Whippet National, when her hock was dislocated.  The dislocation tore the ligaments and tendons in her hock, so there was never any more coursing or racing for her, though she made a complete recovery.  Sweet Pea is now watching her children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren carry on in the show ring, coursing field and race track.  Something that has not diminished with age is her coffee drinking abilities.  She loves coffee and she will get it one way or another - she especially prefers it with cream and sugar, two teaspoons please!  It also seems to be a genetic quality as her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren love any sort of caffeine they can get.

Sweet Pea was Cardiac Echo Normal and CERF Normal at the 2007 American Whippet Club National at the age of 7.  She had another Normal Cardiac Echo at the age of 10!
